Experience Dharma Farms

Goshala

Our goshala, or cow sanctuary, currently supports four cows who enjoy 11 acres of pasture to graze as well as shelter from inclement weather. We currently keep four cows on premises. We do not operate a dairy, so our goshala is purely a sanctuary for rescued animals where they may live out their full lives in peace and comfort.

Meet our beautiful bovines:

  • Bhumidevi - our beloved first cow, Bhumidevi is the matriarch of Dharma Farms. She is an Irish Dexter cross cow rescued from a life of neglect where she was destined for slaughter. Bhumidevi exudes a calm and loving presence that radiates across our entire property.

  • Bahubali - our ebullient Maronesa bull from Portugal, Bahubali is a big presence on Dharma Farms. Also rescued from slaughter, he literally jumped and danced when he first entered our property and realized he was finally safe in a loving environment.

  • Ganga - Ganga is a miniature Zebu, one of the world’s oldest and smallest breed of cow. Zebus date back as far as 3000 BC in ancient India. Ganga is a gentle soul accustomed to human contact and is halter-broken.

  • Frost - The son of Ganga, Frost is also a miniature Zebu whose big personality far exceeds his diminutive size.

Pro-Bono Consulting Services

We work with several goshalas, animal sanctuaries, and animal rescues across the Bay Area to assist them in their mission including sharing know-how, supplies, and helping out with operational and administrative matters. Whether someone needs help finding a large animal vet, getting an animal adopted to a loving home, or getting set up as a goshala, Dharma Farms is here to help and grow the community in any way we can.
